Displaying Maps in Your Home!

You absolutely MUST have maps displayed in your home. I can't tell you how many times I've had people tell me they grew up with a map in their room (or somewhere very visible) and as a result they LOVE geography, or they LOVE maps, or they KNOW their states, or they KNOW all their countries...A lot of learning happens around us without us even knowing it. I call it osmosis learning.

There are a great many places to stick a map, so be creative. Here are some suggestions:

on the ceiling above your child's bed
on the back of closet door
on the living room wall
up the stairway wall
down a hall
as a place mat
in the foyer
on the kitchen table

Maps displayed prominently in your home will often become the centerpieces of conversation not only by you and your family members but by visitors to your home as well! We like to put maps on our kitchen table and cover the table with a clear plastic tablecloth. The plastic cover can be purchase by the yard at any fabric store or Walmart. People can't resist finding and pointing to places they've been, and often delightful stories erupt as a result of the remembering!
